Offered: Carved Pixie Door by Thomas Hine
Offered: A carved pixie door for your home or garden!
Thomas says: This little doorway of Dartmoor / Devon oak is intended for use as a garden ornament or house decorator. It has been hewn by axe and froe to please the pixies of your home.
The spiral tree inspired design was burnt on by hand in my home on the pixie heartland of Dartmoor, Britain. No two of these doors or their designs will ever be exactly the same, the wood is naturally split and the pyrography (burnt-on drawing) is inspired by the whims of the day and the whisperings of the fey folk in my ear.
Attach this little door to the skirting board or place in a garden nook to give a visible sign to the pixies that they are welcome in the home or garden. It comes with two sticky pads for the purpose.
The wood is treated with my own handmade beeswax polish from my organic allotment. The mix also contains turpentine, but this will have evaporated leaving a lovely spicy beeswax scent. It may still discolor outside over time due to weathering and pixie usage.
If you do not live in the UK there may be customs regulations regarding import of wood to conciser before exporting. Tell me the country you live in and I will give it a google!
The door is designed to be stuck straight on to the skirting board, so unless you have some tiny hinges handy it cannot be opened.
This door is a little uneven, being naturally split along the grain, but is all the better for it!
It is approximately 9 x 7.5cms (3.5 X 3 inches)
Treat the pixies with respect and courtesy and they may well reward you in turn (or not - that seems to be how pixies roll!)"
Opening bid: $12
