Offered: Limited Edition Print. "Maestro, the Tree's Conductor". Measuring 24.75 x 19.5 inches. Limited to an edition of only 300 prints. Printed from the original pencil drawing. Unframed.
A print of a fantasy drawing produced a year prior to the beginning of the formation of the Newbury Studio in the mid 1980's with Tom Canty, Rick Berry and Phil Hale. VERY FEW of these left from that era. They are long out of print. It depicts a young Elf who resides by himself on an island and whatever he finds washed up on the shore he hangs in the tree. Whenever the wind blows the musical instruments play and through magic he 'directs' the song.
I was a part of the Newbury Studio in Boston in the 1980's. Terri moved to Boston during that time period and formed the Endicott Studio, named after it's location Endicott Street in Boston's North End. As well as still sharing space on Newbury street with Tom, Rick and Phil I had my own studio in the old Waltham Watch factory in Waltham, Massachusetts and Terri and I often visited each other's spaces and drew together. I went on to concentrate on natural history at that time but I have very fond memories of the 1980's and my experiences with all these friends.
Just last night (Saturday, Dec 10th) I passed directly by the doorway of the original location of the Endicott studio on my way to the Pizzeria Regina with a friend and I was reminded of the great times we all shared. The area hasn't changed very much in all this time. It is warmly decorated for Christmas and the Italian bakeries were jammed with people.
