MAGICK 4 TERRI IS OVER!

This is Terri's puppy, Tilly. Tilly is our mascot and gatekeeper! She likes converting dollars to dog bones, though, so please note the currency exchange.

Finally, thank you.

And here, on January 16th, 2012, is where our fellowship comes to an end -- seems like we've heard that somewhere before. Ah well! What we mean to say is: here is where Magick 4 Terri ends for good. The auctions have been won, paid for, re-offered, accepted, paid for, shipped, re-shipped, and contacted. Our artists, writers, and miscellany creatives assure us that everything is being shipped or arranged, and if you bought something, you should be getting it very soon if you haven't already. If you don't, hit us up at magick4terri@gmail.com and we'll put it to rights - don't worry, nobody is going home without their pretty. Even if we do have to beat someone about the kneecaps. We'll be monitoring the mailbox for the next couple of months, so we're still here for you if we're needed.

But for our last official HQ post, here is where we thank you.

Poets, painters, potters, thank you.

Writers, wordsmiths, weavers, thank you.

Craftsmen, cooks, copy-editors, thank you.

Sculptors, singers, seamstresses, thank you.

Jewelers, jam canners, jazz players, thank you.

Knitters, bakers, candle-makers; harpists, agents, and teachers, thank you.

Buyers, sellers, watchers, sharers, likers, tweeters, friends, and carers, we thank you.

Ellen Kushner, David Shane Odom, Emma Bull, Will Shetterly, Deborah Brannon: thank you, thank you, thank you.

You raided your barns, your attics, your desks, your bookshelves; you opened your tiny fairy doors and convinced them to give their charms and their spells to one of their most favorite godmothers. You made masks, mixed perfumes, baked cookies, knitted scarves and hats and tea cozies, signed books, painted pictures, wrote poems, arranged music, cut collages, and parted with treasures too precious to imagine. Oh, and the Lord Dunsany volume of poems? The one signed by the Lord for Christmas? It was purchased by a Dunsany descendant for her sister, and was sent home to Ireland by ghost-mail express.

We will always remember the time - a chilly grey Portland December -  when our home and life were suddenly taken over by fairies and goblins, cuddly monsters and riotous mayhem, sweetly-singing sirens and hypnotic perfumes, flashing knitting needles, clacking looms, snipping scissors, flying paint, warming ovens, scribbling pens, and books, books, books.  We will never forget your month of magic, and neither will Terri, Tilly, and all of the Windling wildlings.

Now here is something for you.

We will never forget your rising.
Liz & Mia, M4THQ

Unclaimed Winnings Offered!

Happy New Year!

Since the auction ended we have successfully facilitated communication between almost all of our donors and auction winners, and all paid winners have had their information sent on to their donors. Everyone should have received or will be receiving their items (holiday and international mailing times are a factor, of course).

A very blessedly tiny fraction of items have gone unclaimed, with no payment and no communication from the winning bidder. We have made every attempt to track each of these people down, using any information they provided to us, reaching out to them on LJ private message, Google+, Facebook messaging, LJ comments, Googling them for their own blogs and leaving comments, and asking friends of friends to carry messages.

As we have had NO responses or contact on the following auctions, we have contacted the runner-up bidders to offer them the chance at the item. These are the ONLY auctions that this applies to. If you were bidding on any of these auctions you may recieve a second chance offer, please check the bidding queue. NOTE: We are NOT looking for NEW bids.

Thanks again for helping to make the magick!

LAST CALL FOR UNPAID/UNCLAIMED BIDS

Hi, folks! Just a short message to let you know that every unpaid or unclaimed auction high bidder has now been contacted through whatever means we were given.

If you have paid already or have made payment arrangements with us, your high bid has been recorded and processed. Your contact information is forwarded to your donor(s) immediately upon payment and they will be in direct contact with you regarding shipping methods and times. Please note that many of these people are terribly busy and there may be a short delay in contacting you or shipping your item. If you have not heard from your donor or received your item in a reasonable time allowing for holiday post and international shipping as applicable - AND YOU HAVE PAID - please contact us at magick4terri@gmail.com and we will immediately investigate for you.

For those of you who still have not paid or made payment arrangements (i.e. e-mailed us with a firm payment date), you must pay for your item or contact us to make arrangements immediately. It is now two weeks post-auction end and we must begin wrapping this fundraiser for everyone involved. If we do not hear back from those of you who have not paid OR made arrangements with us, we will offer the items to the runner-up bidders beginning on January 2nd, 2012. This is a firm date and no exceptions will be made.

To repeat: If you have not paid OR contacted us with other arrangements, we will offer these items to the runner-up bidders on January 2nd, 2012.

We thank all of you so much for your prompt payments, clear communication, good wishes, and generous spirits during this amazing event for Terri and her family. You have made a true and lasting difference in the lives of many, many people, and again, we thank you.

Wishing you the very best of the New Year,
Magick4Terri HQ

We're back...

We hope that you had a lovely holiday!

We have returned to tracking down the bidders who have not paid and any unpaid/uncommunicated about items will be officially offered to the next bidder on January 2nd! We would say January 1st but we don't expect many people to be watching their email or checking the Internets after all that bubbly!

Also, a request:

Please do not open PayPal disputes at this early juncture if you haven't yet received your items. We only finished processing payments and notifying donors that it was OK to send out items on the 20th (a few on the 21st). With holiday mailing and the fact that many items are going between countries, it's highly likely that even things shipped priority are going to take more than 4 or 5 days to arrive. We did ask that donors email winners when they shipped the items, but we know that people are forgetful and not everyone did that. We also know that some donors were having family holidays. If you are concerned please email us and we'll check with the donor in question for you. We expect that you shouldn't actually be concerned for at least another week.

Much love to all and oh my goodness it's very nearly 2012!!!

Magick4Terri Is On Christmas Vacation!!

Hello Darlings!

Magick4Terri HQ has a house to clean, houseguests coming tomorrow for Christmas, gifts to wrap, a Festivus pole to erect, and -- TMI alert -- an old botched root canal that has been flaring up since Thanksgiving (second round of penicillin and vicodin commencing now)!

In the interest of preserving our sanity, we are taking a few days off to have our holiday.

We will be checking the email and responding to anything you need, but further tracking of errant bidders will be discontinued until the morning of Monday, December 26th.

Thank you for your patience, your understanding, and all your magic.

Much love and the happiest of every possible holiday to all of you from

VERY IMPORTANT: We still have 70 auction listings that have not been claimed or paid for. Please, please, please either e-mail us at magick4terri@gmail.com or pay ASAP. If you need to back out of your high bid, that's fine - please let us know. We can also make late pay arrangements for special circumstances if needed. We will make one last effort tomorrow to get in contact with the winners of these unclaimed auctions, and then we must begin offering these items to the runner-up bidders. Thank you all for everything. Thank you for speedy payments, clear communication, patience, good wishes, and good will! We wish you the very happiest of winter holidays. Have more pie!

One last submission slipping in under the wire.

Our mountain home in Western Maryland is named Flora Vale for the abundant flowers, both wild and cultivated, that spring forth from it each year. From here we create Sculpted Leather Art Forms of Masks and other designs, Imagined to represent the Fantastical Naturalism and Mythic Arts we love so much. We are a family of Home Schooled Kids who are teaching their parents the fine art of education, Mad Gardeners who attempt to understand the willful secrets of the soil and joyful rapture of the birds, Amateur Naturalist, Illustrators, Crafters, Contributing Editors with Faerie Magazine, and Creators.

It has been our honor to participate in the Auction for Terri Windling. We, in fact, owe our direction and much of our career to her inspiration, via Endicott Studios, and the Mythic Arts Community, they seeded in the early days. It was discovering their website, and the Circle of Friends it Inspired, that helped us find a Path in the Mythic Woods. Along that Road, we know we have been a conduit to further Inspiration of many others, and now many Circles of Mythic Friends have sprung along our trail, and amongst our fellow Travelers. The Way is open, if only you can see. The vast interconnected web of Faerie Festivals, Writers, Mythic Geeks, Artists, and Fans, may find, amidst the Map of Faerie Land, themselves at the door to Terri's cottage. It is our sincere hope that one outcome of this Circle of Support, may be a further Interconnection of the Wonderful Faerie Tribes that share in the Mythic Arts. Thank you Terri, for everything.

So, we like to pack boxes of Magick, and the size and contents of YOUR box will be entirely dependent on the final Bid raised for Terri. It may include, amongst other things, Feathers, Seeds, Flowers, Dried Leaves, Crystals, Bits of Old Leather crafted into Glamour, Sparkly Things, Colored Scratchings on Paper, Photographic Illuminations, Imaginations from a Child's Mind, Sea Shells, Magic Acorns, Butterfly Wings, Inspiration, and Dreams. You may be Surprised, Confused, or Amazed. Faerie is like that. We promise only to send a bit of our home to yours.

Please note. Due to financial consideration and that the Postal Service seems to be able to defeat our Glamour and won't take leaves and acorns in payment, we can't ship abroad from the USA unless you can pick up the cost. Please consider this if you are an overseas bidder, and act accordingly.

We will ship this out via USPS Postal Service by the Spring Equinox.

Seller: gary mcCluskey

Offered: An issue of Sandman #19 signed by both Neil Gaiman and Charles Vess, with a cool story behind it.

Gary says: The issue was signed for me (by Gaiman and Vess) at one of the Big Apple cons in the early nineties. Here's a blurb I found about this issue -- Neil Gaiman and Charles Vess shared the 1991 World Fantasy award for best short story, for Sandman #19, "A Midsummer Night's Dream." After the award was given, the World Fantasy Association changed the rules for candidacy, decreeing that a nominee for the short story award must be written entirely in prose. Thus, Gaiman's book remains the only comic ever to have won a World Fantasy Award and will likely stay that way until comics regain the Honor they deserve.

Countdown Begins!

This is it, folks! Unless a couple of last-minute artists get back to us, our donation box at HQ is completely empty! No more new listings will be posted tomorrow or Thursday from us - instead, we're going to use the time to remind newcomers of some early listings, highlight some popular categories, try to spread the word as far as possible, and prepare HQ to accept payments, sort bids, help you with paying and contacting your seller (if your seller is not HQ-based). Stay with us for a couple more days and watch your listings to make sure you've still got the high bids - read every bid! Sometimes people sneak in and drop a high bid when you aren't looking! HQ Tech (that'd be me) will continue updating the Showcase listings on the left side of the site, so it's easy to browse through special-interest auctions. Our extensive tag list helps you find things by specific keyword, i.e. "offered: books" or "artist: wendy froud."

You are more than welcome to keep posting your own auctions! Just keep in mind that all auctions must end when the fundraiser ends on 12/15/2011 at 5:00 p.m. PST.

Do remember we're here on Facebook and over here on Twitter and there's a FB event listing to make it easy for you to invite your friends!

We'll post again on Thursday morning (PST) with detailed instructions about payment, closing time, and other miscellany. Until then, you've all been so wonderful and we appreciate everything you've done and keep doing for Terri and her family. The spells have been cast, the offerings made, the sacrifices done, the cauldron stirred, the songs sung...

This scent was ONLY available during the signing, for FOUR hours only. It will never be available again. BPAL has graciously donated this scent to help Magick4Terri finish off this fundraiser in style!

These FIVE bottles will go to the FIVE highest bidders, ONE to EACH winner.

TOUCHED TWICE

It was long that the unicorn stood by Prince Lír before she touched him with her horn. For all that her quest had ended joyously, there was weariness in the way she held herself, and a sadness in her beauty that Molly had never seen. It suddenly seemed to her that the unicorn’s sorrow was not for Lír but for the lost girl who could not be brought back; for the Lady Amalthea, who might have lived happily ever after with the prince. The unicorn bowed her head, and her horn glanced across Lír’s chin as clumsily as a first kiss.

He sat up blinking, smiling at something long ago. “Father,” he said in a quick, wondering voice. “Father, I had a dream.” Then he saw the
unicorn, and he rose to his feet as the blood on his face began to shine and move again. He said, “I was dead.”

The unicorn touched him a second time, over the heart, letting her horn rest there for a little space. They were both trembling. Prince Lír put his hands out to her like words. She said, “I remember you. I remember.”

As delicate as life, as gentle as death, and as powerful as love: sheer, luminescent vanilla musk with frangipani, red sandalwood, frankincense, champaca flower, coconut, rose absolute, white cyclamen, Himalayan mogra, angelica, and white oud.

Seller: Charles de Lint and MaryAnn Harris

Offered: Pair of CDs by Charles de Lint and MaryAnn Harris, signed & inscribed (if you wish).

Old Blue Truck, 10 original songs by Charles de Lint
Crow Girls EP, 4 original songs by MaryAnn Harris

I’m starting to think it’s one of the misfortunes of my life that I’ve never had the opportunity to hear de Lint live. I’ve been a fan of his books for years, and hope, with the release of this CD (which apparently is the result of an ongoing campaign by any number of people to get him to actually do it), that his reputation expands beyond those live venues that he’s worked in. -- Robert Tilendis, Green Man Review

Having heard MaryAnn Harris’ backup vocals on husband Charles de Lint’s Old Blue Truck, I still wasn’t prepared for her singing on her own EP, Crow Girls. The element of surprise seems to be something the two have in common. -- Robert Tilendis, Green Man Review

Seller: Loreena McKennitt

Offered: DVD/CD set, Nights From The Alhambra, signed by Loreena McKennitt, PLUS a bonus copy of her new CD The Wind That Shakes The Barley (unsigned).

Nights From The Alhambra is an enchanting musical performance, set beneath the stars in the breathtaking Moorish heart of medieval Spain. Captured live in September 2006, singer/composer Loreena McKennitt – in her first in-concert television special - leads viewers through the multi-textured landscapes of her catalogue, from traditional Celtic ballads to literary narratives and highlights from her most recent recording, An Ancient Muse. This is a deluxe three-disc set comprising a 99-minute DVD and two companion CDs with a combined running time of 94 minutes. Both the DVD and the audio-only CDs present performances of 18 of Loreena’s best-loved songs, including “The Mummers’ Dance”, “Caravanserai”, “The Mystic’s Dream” and “The Lady Of Shalott”, performed by Loreena and a host of musical colleagues. SIGNED.

In a stirring and inspirational return to her roots, Loreena McKennitt has created a new album of traditional Celtic songs, recorded this summer in the historic 1832 Sharon Temple north of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. "Every once and again there is a pull to return to one's own roots or beginnings, with the perspective of time and experience, to feel the familiar things you once loved and love still," says Loreena. Consisting of nine songs, The Wind That Shakes The Barley was recorded with some of Loreena’s long-time musical companions along with a cast of other accomplished musicians. NOT SIGNED.

Seller: Ellen Kushner

Offered: From the personal collection of Ellen Kushner, the Advance Reading Copy (ARC) of award-winning author Nancy Werlin's magical YA novel, Extraordinary -- which Nancy so generously sent her, since they'd been talking about "how you could possibly do a novel that combined contemporary YA teen romance with Faerie and being Jewish?"

"An epic tale of faerie, full of love, lies, betrayal and (most of all) friendship. Werlin’s themes include abusive relationships, religious tolerance and the intricacies of female friendship. A heartbreaking story of the difference between being ordinary and extraordinary." -Romantic Times (four stars, Sept. 2010)

Top Ten Autumn 2010 Kids' Indie Next List:  “What on the surface is a highly enjoyable story of suspense involving a covert mission of faery siblings and the mysterious debt that must be paid by a human teen, becomes a subtle yet vital examination of dating violence and esteem issues in adolescent girls. This should be on high school reading lists everywhere. Extraordinary, indeed!”  —Beth Simpson, Cornerstone Books, Salem, MA

Can be signed ("From the Library of...") by both Ellen & Delia (we both read it!)  if you want, since Ellen will be mailing it from her (somewhat messy) desk.  If you want The Author to inscribe it, too, well . . . We'll ask!

Seller: The Philip José Farmer Estate

Every item in the Philip José Farmer Estate Sale is now 20% off and 25% of all sales through December 15, 2011 will be donated to Magick 4 Terri!

Four days ago we announced here that 25% of all sales through December 15, 2011 would be donated to Magick 4 Terri. So far the response has been. . .underwhelming to say the least. But we think we know the problem. When you go to the Estate Sale page, the first item you see, a rare signed hardcover of A Feast Unknown costs $450, and the next book is a $100 paperback!

So we'd like to take a moment to point out that while there are very expensive books: $4,500 for The Lake Regions of Central Africa: Volumes 1 and 2 (1860) by Sir Richard Francis Burton, or $1,500 for a signed harcover first edition of Farmer's The Fabulous Riverboat for examples, there are many affordable books as well.

There are over forty different titles under $50, many of them signed paperbacks, and other cool stuff like this:

Charles M. Doughty. Travels In Arabia Deserta. Heritage Press, 1953. Hard Cover. Near Fine hardcover in slipcase. Decorated beige linen cloth binding, pictorial endpapers, map, illustrated throughout by Edy Legrand. Introduction by T.E. Lawrence. $40.00

Nothing Burns in Hell. Advance Uncorrected Proof. Trade Paperback. Near Fine From the estate of Philip José Farmer. Advanced Uncorrected Proof in Near Fine condition. One of three author copies. These copies are NOT signed. $30.00

Dark is the Sun. Blackstone Audio, Multiple copies of this new audio book were sent to Philip José Farmer's heirs. This unabridged audio book is 14.5 hours on 12 cds. We're selling these for about half of the list price. Five author copies are currently available for $30 each.

There are almost another seventy titles between $50 and $100 that would make a great gift for any science fiction fan:

Forrest J Ackerman (ed), Best Science Fiction for 1973. Very Good+ Signed by Philip José Farmer on page 56. Contains a reprint of the short story "Seventy Years of Decpop." $50.00

Byron Preiss (ed), Weird Heroes Vol 1. Very Good+ Signed by Philip José Farmer on page 194. Contains the first publication of the short story "Greatheart Silver in Showdown at Shootout." $60.00

Robert Frazier (ed), Burning with a Vision: Poetry of Science and the Fantastic. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good+ Signed by Philip José Farmer on page 52. Contains a reprint of the poem, "The Pterodactyl." $75.00

Fritz Leiber, Ervool. Roanoke: Chapbook. Very Good+ Pictorial wrapper. First edition. Number 158 of 200 numbered copies signed by Leiber on special limitation page. This publication was prepared for distribution at the Sixth World Fantasy Convention in Baltimore, Maryland, October, 1980. $75.00

Brian Ash (ed), The Visual Encyclopedia of Science Fiction. Oversized Paperback. Very Good+ Signed "Property of Philip José Farmer" on the first page and signed again on page 223 at his entry on Religion and Myths. $85.00

You get the idea -- and don't forget, now everything is 20% off! -- but only through December 15th.

So, do yourself, and more importantly Terri, a favor, and spend a little time browsing the list. There is bound to be something you suddenly realize you can't live without.

Seller: Omnium Records

Offered: 2 (TWO) Boiled in Lead/Steven Brust/Megan Lindholm The Gypsy Superpacks!

In another auction, Ellen Kushner is offering her personal copy of BiL's Songs From the Gypsy along with a copy of the book signed by Steven Brust. This is the supersized version of her offer, direct from Omnium.

Drew Miller, of Boiled in Lead and Omnium Records, volunteered to go over to Steven Brust's house to get the book signed for Ellen. While he was going through some things, he found more Gypsy. So he's offering up TWO more packages to the TWO highest bidders on this auction.

The ultimate package of this multimedia project:

* hardback copy of the book, autographed by Steven Brust
* CD and cassette copies of BiL Songs From The Gypsy
* extra data disc of the enhanced portion of the CD including the entire text of the book
(Drew says: Gypsy came out in 1995 using an "enhanced CD" format that is no longer readable by modern computers. The enhanced material was done in Shockwave and requires Mac Classic (OS9) in order to run it. No idea if it will work on a Windows machine. Happy geekery getting it to work!)

Seller: William Shunn

Offered: Signed private paperback edition of The Accidental Terrorist by William Shunn.

There are 3 (THREE) copies which will go to the THREE highest bidders.

Thousands of listeners have tuned in to William Shunn's podcast to hear him serialize his memoir, The Accidental Terrorist.  A revised and streamlined draft of the manuscript has just started making the rounds of publishers, but those of you who've been asking when you can get your hands on a copy now have a chance to own it long before anyone else!

The Accidental Terrorist chronicles the true story of teenaged Bill's adventures as a reluctant Mormon missionary in Canada, and the strange series of events that led to his arrest and trial on charges of terrorism.  Along the way, it peels back the veil of secrecy around the private lives of those well-scrubbed young men behind the black name tags, and shows the lengths to which even the most American of boys can be driven in the attempt to prove his devotion to God.

On offer are three copies of this latest draft of The Accidental Terrorist, privately printed through Lulu.com and signed by the author.  In addition, each of the winning bidders will receive a very cool surprise gift from William Shunn, plus a special mention in the book's acknowledgments when it finally appears in its commercial edition.  Be among the very first to read and own the definitive version of this remarkable story!

Seller: Omnium Records

Offered: 2 (TWO) CD set of holiday music for pagans, or just those weary of the usual holiday musical fare!

Steven Posch -- Radio Paganistan

Steven tells the stories of our local community, which reverberate through all Paganistan. Radio Paganistan includes everyone's favorite song about everyone's favorite Yule ogress – Mother Berhta's Coming to Town. Other stories include The Bride of the Forest (the Brothers Grimm meet the Rite of Spring, in the Great North Woods), The Descent of Anat (take the old Canaanite winter solstice festival, give it a bris, and voila:  Hanuka!). And at last you will know who would win if Mother Berhta and Santa Claus got into a fight. The two songs Steven sings here are backed up by bass from Drew Miller of Boiled in Lead and percussion from Renée Bracchi of Felonious Bosch.

Kari Tauring -- Before Kari Tauring's current work with deep Nordic roots culture and music, she produced a series of multimedia events called "Discovering Orgins / Building Traditions." Now that music has been remastered and expanded on a CD from Omnium Records.

Seller: Lois McMaster Bujold

Offered: Signed uncorrected proof copy of Cryoburn by Lois McMaster Bujold. This book was nominated for the 2011 Hugo for Best Novel.

Fans have been clamoring for Hugo winner Bujold to pen a new Vorkosigan Saga novel since 2002's Diplomatic Immunity, and they will not be disappointed by this thoughtful tale. Only five days after arriving on Kibou-daini for a cryonics conference, interplanetary diplomat Miles Vorkosigan narrowly escapes kidnapping. Drugged, dazed, and alone, he is taken in by Jin Sato, whose mother was the leader of a cryonics reform movement until being declared mentally ill and involuntarily frozen. Now Jin lives in a building full of squatters running an illegal cryonics clinic. Under imperial orders to investigate the shady dealings of the cryo cartels, Miles connects the far-flung pieces and exposes a sneaky plot. Bujold introduces appealing characters to join familiar ones in exploring the ramifications of a planet-wide culture of postponing death, and her deft and absorbing writing easily corrals the complex plot and softens the blow of a tear-jerking conclusion. -- Publishers Weekly

Offered: New CE Murphy Novel!

Seller: CE Murphy (mizkit)

Offered: A middle-grade fantasy novel by CE (Catie) Murphy.

I've just finished writing a middle grade fantasy novel about pirates and lost princes for my 9-year-old nephew. I've printed up some copies through Lulu.com (because giving a loose-leaf manuscript to a 9 year old is just cruel), and am auctioning not one, not two, but THREE of them off!

This book is the first of a four book series, and I have every intention of writing the entire series before sending it to my agent, so what I'm offering right now is a chance to get a copy of this book years before it's going to be widely available.

Furthermore, for the right price, I'll send the winning bidders the next books in the series as I write them. I make absolutely no guarantee as to when that will be.

So I have three (sets of) books here to auction off. I'm going to offer one as a Buy It Now, the second in $50 increments for each book, and the third at $100 increments for each book.

I'll post three comments on this auction entry, titled Auction 1: BUY NOW, Auction 2: $50+, and Auction 3: $100+. Auction 1 will close immediately upon someone making an offer. Auctions 2 & 3 can go as high as they like, and I'll do my best to throw in some little extras if they skyrocket. Sound good?

Winners do not have to bid for all 4 books if they don't want to--if Auction 3 only reaches $100, for example, that's cool, the winner will just get this book.

Auction 1 BUY NOW: $25 (or $100 for all 4 books)
Auction 2 $50+ opening bid: $50/book
Auction 3 $100+ opening bid: $100/book

Seller: Alan Weisman

Offered: Signed hardcover copy of Alan Weisman's international bestseller The World Without Us.

In The World Without Us, Terri's long time friend Alan Weisman offers an utterly original approach to questions of humanity's impact on the planet: he asks us to envision our Earth, without us.

In this far-reaching narrative, Weisman explains how our massive infrastructure would collapse and finally vanish without human presence; what of our everyday stuff may become immortalized as fossils; how copper pipes and wiring would be crushed into mere seams of reddish rock; why some of our earliest buildings might be the last architecture left; and how plastic, bronze sculpture, radio waves, and some man-made molecules may be our most lasting gifts to the universe........Drawing on the expertise of engineers, atmospheric scientists, art conservators, zoologists, oil refiners, marine biologists, astrophysicists, religious leaders from rabbis to the Dalai Lama, and paleontologists – who describe a pre-human world inhabited by megafauna like giant sloths that stood taller than mammoths – Weisman illustrates what the planet might be like today, if not for us.

From places already devoid of humans (a last fragment of primeval European forest; the Korean DMZ; Chernobyl), Weisman reveals Earth's tremendous capacity for self-healing. As he shows which human devastations are indelible, and which examples of our highest art and culture would endure longest.........It is narrative nonfiction at its finest, and in posing an irresistible concept with both gravity and a highly-readable touch, it looks deeply at our effects on the planet in a way that no other book has.  (adapted from the publisher's website, http://www.worldwithoutus.com)

Seller: Biting Dog Press

Offered: A set of artist's proofs for an early concept of a Neil Gaiman broadside (poster) project.

Here's the kicker: these are NOT the final design, they are concept designs for the project that they were working on. They liked both, but they went another direction with the design. So you will be the ONLY person with these two poster designs. (Or you and the friend you give the other one to, after asking them to perform a regulation amount of groveling...)

Because each of these is a proof copy, it is printed on regular paper and not the final handmade paper that it will be on.

Because this is an UNRELEASED project, and will be released in 2012 in both broadside and bound form, they have asked us to blur the actual text of the piece, but you can get a general idea of the look of the two posters.

Neil has worked with Biting Dog on broadsides and other special projects. We here at HQ can assure you that this one will knock your socks off.
